The Requirements:

Experience < > Education < > Examination < > Continuing Education

Experience: To be eligible for the Certified Estate Planner Designation, an individual must have at least two years of verifiable experience in the area of estate planning, financial planning, insurance, banking or a related field.

Education: Correspondence—The AACEP offers the student the opportunity to earn the Certified Planner Designation by successfully completing a comprehensive correspondence course covering the essential areas of estate planning. The course material and texts are furnished by AACEP as part of the cost of the course. The AACEP has an instructor on call at the national office to assist you with your study program. The cost for the correspondence course is $1,195.00.

On-Site Classroom—16 hours of classroom instruction provided by the AACEP at our teaching center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The instructor furnished by AACEP will be a qualified individual with a law degree who specializes in estate and financial planning. The areas covered will be those listed under "examination" below. The cost of this classroom program is $1,295.00 with all texts furnished by AACEP.

Other—The following can also satisfy the education requirement:

  1. Attorneys who have actively practiced in the area of estate planning for more than ten (10) years.

  2. Candidates who have already earned a designation as a Certified Financial Planner through the College of Financial Planning.
